What's the best software to clone failing HDD/SSD that has bad sectors'I have a 2TB Seagate drive that is failing with 34% bad sectors. I plan to clone it to a 2TB WD Black hard drive. Yesterday, I tried some cloning software but got 'failure to copy' error in the same way and then it just stopped the cloning task.
Now I really need to find the best cloning software that can clone (OS, programs, files, etc) HDD with bad sectors. Any advice shall be greatly appreciated.' Disk cloning software usually works for events when you from a smaller one to a larger one, or from an old one to a new one. Cloning operating system, installed programs, files, emails, photos, and other data would largely save you time and energy to reinstall them. But once your old hard drive is diagnosed with bad sectors, most of the time, the cloning procedure will be interrupted immediately. Thus, to find a powerful disk and partition cloning software that can clone bad sectors becomes significantly important. EaseUS Disk Copy enables to clone hard drive with bad sectorsTaking bad sectors into consideration, EaseUS Disk Copy, known as the and partition cloning software in the market, provides a unique cloning feature called sector by sector clone.
When the software detects blank or logically bad sectors from the source disk, it won't terminate the process but work on the bad sectors cloning without interruption. Get the best disk copy software to clone disk with bad sectorsEaseUS Disk Copy is fully compatible with Windows 10/8/7. You can just apply this software to help you upgrade and clone all data on the hard drive with bad sectors to a new disk with ease now.
I have a desktop computer running Windows XP Professional. My old hard drive is a WDC WD800JD.
I have purchased and installed a new WDC WD5000AAKS hard drive. I am attempting to clone the old drive onto the new drive using the Acronis True Image WD Edition. I downloaded it recently and it is up to date.I have now made several attempts to clone the old drive, all of which have failed. For the most part, I get past the point where I restart the computer and the Operation Progress window opens. At some point during “1 of 2 - Copying Partition” the process just freezes. I have let the computer run overnight but once it stops, it never goes any further. The mouse works, I can minimize the window or select the Cancell button.
Although, cancell does not work.I am totally stumped on what to do and quite frustrated with this software. I have tried shutting down as many programs as I can so nothing is running in the background. All my anti-virus programs are shut down. There is 9.64 Gb of free space on the old drive. Any thoughts? If there is a better (free) cloning software out there, I will try it.

Well, as a first step you could run a chkdsk /f on the source drive - that's slow going but it will confirm if there are any sectors that are too unreliable to read. Also, you could try making a backup instead of cloning. Then see if you can 'validate' the backup using the ATI Boot CD. You might find that the Boot Cd cannot reliably read your backup disk and will need to contact Tech for an iso you can burn to CD to make a bootcd that works with your hardware. NOte that the Bootcd issue would be a separate problem for unmarked bad sectors on the source drive. Vista uses the HD serial number to create a binary code that it checks during the boot sequence. By changing HDs you have also changed that binary sequence.

I'm not sure if Acronis fixes that automatically, I thought the newer versions that are Vista compatible do, but I'm not 100% sure if it does it during a clone operation. This problem can occur with Vista if you change HDs, or change the C: partition size. I may be way off and this might not be the problem after all, but if you search the forum for posts about Vista's BCD you may be able to find a method to configure your BCD to be less fussy than the original Vista install.
By setting certain BCD parameters to 'boot' this problem goes away. Sorry I can't be more specific, its been several months since I read the posts that I'm referring to, so I don't happen to have the exact commands memorized. GroverH.I think I jumped the gun, got ahold of HDD Regenerator and used that on Disk 1 (old) drive. It found 56 sector errors and repaired them. I have followed instructions upon instructions and I still get 'clone disk operation failed' error message during cloning operations. This is incredibly frustrating. I hope that someone here can help me.I am cloning a 500gb HDD (source) to a 275gb Crucial SSD (target).
The source disk has two partitions: one is labeled system reserved at 360mb and the other is the main partition with 100gb of data.I have added the new SSD disk (which is in the laptop) and it currently has a 360mb partition labeled system reserved.I have booted into True Image by using a USB stick. Added the new SSD and tried cloning but received the error 'clone disk operation failed'.Thanks for your help. Cloning is a bit more finicky than a full disk and recovery. OEM versions are basically neutered with the bare capabilities, but often several versions behind as well and may have bugs or missing features needed to support different types of hardware.1) Clones are more likely to fail if there are bad/dirty sectors on the source disk. If that is the only issue, then running ' chkdsk /f /r' on the original hard drive before a clone may allow it to work. The reason being that if there are bad sectors on the source, then it will try to do a sector-by-sector clone (even if not selected) and then you would not have enough space to do this when moving to a smaller drive as it would fill up before the clone could complete.2) Cloning is not supported when there are any hybrid drives involved.
Doesn't seem to be your case though. Keep in mind that some motherboards have a dedicated, small 'caching' ssd which creates a dynamic disk configuration. Cloning is not possible with Acronis when a hybrid or dynamic disk is in play3) Sector size differences between disk may cause cloning to fail. Mario, welcome to these user forums. Please note that this particular forum is for the 2015 product and you have stated you have the 2017 product. I would recommend posting any further updates or problems as a New topic in theThe main cause of a black screen is when booting in either the wrong boot mode, i.e. MBR on a UEFI system or the reverse; or in using the standard Linux based media on a system with UEFI & Secure Boot.

If you are attempting to clone from within Windows, then this will create a temporary Linux OS environment from which to launch the Acronis program to perform the clone. It may be that the AOMEI software you used defaulted to using a Windows PE boot environment from which to launch the clone operation - you can create the same with ATIH 2017 if you choose the correct Rescue Media Builder option to do so, this will work fine with UEFI Secure Boot systems. AOMEI does use WinPE to build rescue media. Although Acronis defaults to Linux rescue media, one can build WinPE as well which is likely to boot on a wider range of hardware.Mario, I would suggest downloading and installing the Windows 10 ADK on your machine (it's fairly large at 3.4Gb when you pick the top 3 options once it's downloaded). However, it will be very useful and Acronis can tap into it to build you WinPE.Also, we (MVP's) have build a WinPE creation tool to help build your WinPE and add custom drivers if you like.
It also has other features like a web browser, file explorer, etc.Links for the Windows 10 ADK and the MVP winpe builder are both below. If you just want to replicate (clone) DATA (no OS or applications), then just copy and paste the content from one drive to the other - that's the downright easiest thing to do and requires no cloning or backup/recovery.If you don't want to use Windows copy/paste, you can use Windows robocopy as wellopen cmd as admin (right click and run as admin)robocopy 'Source' 'Destination' /R:0 /W:0 /MIR /Tee will make an exact mirror of the source drive to the destination. Make sure to change source and destination with something like C: and D:, but MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORRECT SOURCE and CORRECT DETINATION before you do!!!!!!! There are also free synch software applications that can synch data from one drive to the other.

A clone is only needed if you plan to make an exact copy of a bootable OS drive.
